groovING TUC - Big Band at the TU Clausthal e.V

News

The Big Band's online music video project

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, our big band also had to stop rehearsing in March 2020. In order to be able to make some music together after all, we - like many other bands and choirs - recorded our voices individually at home. The videos were shot either directly during the recording or independently of the music recording.
This project was made possible by the kind financial support of the Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung. The funds provided enabled us to purchase the necessary technical equipment and take online lessons from Domenic Eggers, the band's leader, and Chiara Raimondi, the teacher of our jazz vocal ensemble.

groovING TUC - Big Band at the TU Clausthal e.V.

The TU Clausthal Big Band consists of musicians and singers who study, teach and work at TU Clausthal as well as music enthusiasts from the surrounding area. Anyone who can play an instrument or likes to sing and enjoys music can join in without an entrance exam.

The groovING TUC Big Band was founded in September 2017. Since then, we have been rehearsing in the music room of the Robert-Koch Gymnasium (RKS, Berliner Str. 16, Clausthal-Zellerfeld) and occasionally in the Mathematics Institute (Erzstr. 1, Clausthal-Zellerfeld). Our rehearsal dates, rehearsal content and rehearsal locations can be found on the"Dates" page.
Our rehearsal room in the Math Institute is available to all members of the Big Band for their rehearsals, although of course the Institute's operations must not be disturbed. Making music in the rehearsal room is therefore prohibited during the day (7:30 am - 7:00 pm) and during examination times.

Both the rehearsal room in the RKS and the one in the Math Institute are equipped with everything a musician's heart desires:

  • Grand piano, electric piano, keyboard,
  • drums
  • electric bass and electric guitar with amplifiers
  • music stands
  • mixing desk
  • Microphones and stands
  • Monitor speakers
  • PA system

We supplement our big band rehearsals with rehearsals for the saxophone, trumpet, trombone and rhythm sections, depending on our association's financial resources.

swingING TUC Jazz Combo

In addition to the Big Band, we have a small jazz combo, the swingING TUC Jazz Com bo, which meets one hour before the actual Big Band rehearsal. The Jazz Combo rehearses pieces that can be played with a smaller and a changing line-up. We perform with the jazz combo at events for which our big band is too big. For example, we have played at the celebration of the Workers' Welfare Association in Goslar as well as at the New Year's reception of the town of Clausthal or at the event celebrating 100 years of women's suffrage. We were even engaged for the graduation ceremony of the Robert Koch School in Cloausthal
